New Meadow Park Pool schedule for October PDF Print E-mail
October 3, 2008 . . . The Meadow Park Sports Centre is suffering a critical shortage of qualified lifeguards and there is not enough staff to operate the pool during regularly scheduled operating hours. In response to the shortage, the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has come up with a revised operating plan and teaching schedule for the fall. The RMOW is also actively recruiting pool staff and discussing program options.

The schedule includes sessional swims during which time there will be lessons but no public access. Swim lessons are also undergoing some schedule changes. The RMOW has cancelled Saturday and Sunday morning lessons while all other scheduled times will continue.

Tri-area cross country ski passes offered for 2008/09 season PDF Print E-mail
imagesOctober 2, 2008 . . . The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW), the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic organizing committee (VANOC) and Callaghan Country are teaming up this winter to offer cross-country ski passes that give skiers access to the Lost Lake Trails and the Whistler Olympic Park trails and Callaghan Country trails in the Callaghan Valley.

Prices for the tri-area passes are up compared to the dual-area passes last year. An adult early bird tri-area seasons pass costs $325 and after December 5th, the cost is $400. With the additional legacy trails built this summer at Whistler Olympic Park and the addition of the Callaghan Country trails, the tri-area pass gives cross-country skiers access to more than 125 kilometres of trails.

Options being pursued for Meadow Park Sports Centre staff shortage PDF Print E-mail
poolSeptember 30, 2008 . . . The Meadow Park Sports Centre is suffering a critical shortage of qualified lifeguards and there is not enough staff to operate the pool during regularly scheduled operating hours. In response to the shortage, Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is actively recruiting pool staff and discussing program options. The RMOW is pursuing the following operating options.
1. Sessional swims for the fall (ie-no pool access during swim lessons)
2. Cutting back opening and/or closing hours
3. Cutting leisure pool hours
4. Cutting lap pool hours
5. Closing one day per week
6. Minimizing or not offering swim lessons and other programs

Local coaches honoured at wine and cheese reception PDF Print E-mail
CSCP Coach Wine & Cheese 007September 29, 2008 . . . The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) in partnership with the Canadian Sports Centre Pacific Whistler campus acknowledged the community's local coaches with a "Thanks Coach! Wine and Cheese Reception" during B.C. Coaches Week on Thursday September 18, 2008.

Whistler's coaches work tirelessly to ensure that local youth get a chance to participate and learn the value of sport. Diana Rochon, Whistler-based CSC Pacific regional coordinator of athlete and coach services, said coaches are often the first adult to impact a child's life after their parents.

Pool scheduled to re-open on Monday but may have to reduce hours of operation PDF Print E-mail
pool_lapsSeptember 22, 2008 . . . The Meadow Park Sports Centre swimming pool has been closed for annual maintenance and is scheduled to reopen on Monday September 29 but for the first time in 14 years, the pool is suffering a critical shortage of qualified lifeguards and there is not enough staff to operate the pool during regularly scheduled operating hours. It is anticipated, that the pool operating hours will be limited to peak use periods over the next few weeks until more pool staff are recruited or trained.

Evening drop- in fitness classes starting September 15 PDF Print E-mail
Meadow Park Sports Centre Classes are a popular option during the day with a variety of classes from Rise'n'Shine to Circuit training.

It is summer in Whistler so people are heading outside for a variety of outdoor activities, going on holiday and enjoying the beautiful weather. as a result all evening value added classes have been put on hold until September 15 to allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy the great summer weather.

Morning classes will continue through the summer. The Rise'n'Shine fitness class is offered Tuesdays and Fridays from 6:30 to 7:20 a.m. This twice-weekly 45-minute condensed class assists participants in maintaining and improving their fitness level. The circuit-style class comprises of both resistance and cardio training intervals focusing on function full-body exercises with an emphasis on core strength. This class will engage both the body and mind of each participant.

February 21, 2008. . .The Dave Murray Downhill course, long considered among the top three most difficult downhills in the world, takes centre stage this week. So does the recently upgraded women's downhill on Franz's Run, and the top alpine skiers in the world, as Telus presents the Whistler World Cup alpine ski event February 21 to 24. It's the first World Cup alpine ski event in Whistler since 1995, and the resort community is buzzing.
